Surface Water Rescue
This is considered an entry level water rescue course. Awareness level knowledge will be discussed regarding further water rescue disciplines including: watercraft, swift water, ice and dive.
Students should have a basic understanding of ropes & knots. Students should be physically fit and comfortable in the water.
A short pre-reading will be emailed out to students ahead of the course.
These exercises will include, but not limited to:
- Deploy a throw bag
- Coiling and throwing loose rope
- Attaching a prusik loop to a rope
- Making a head-up running leap entry
- Flipping an unconscious victim
- Using litter flotation
Pre-requisites:
- Students should be physically fit and comfortable in the water.
- Students should be able to swim.
PPE: every student should have at minimum
- Rescue pfd
- Water rescue helmet
- Thermal protection (drysuit or thick wetsuit, gloves, boots, hood, etc)
- Cutting tool and Whistle
